An Introduction to Ikebana Arrangements of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana

Students will receive an overview of the history of Japanese flower arranging, and learn the differences between Western flower arranging and Ikebana. They also will explore the two basic styles of moribana (low container) arrangements. The instructor will assist students in creating several style variations. A comprehensive handout and all floral materials are included. Containers and pin-holders will be provided for use in the class. Making Better Plant Portraits: Moving from Auto to Manual

This class will introduce students to the mechanics of their camera, as well as help them see light and learn how to control it for better images. Compositional rules and the effective use of line and contrast will also be covered. The class will be divided into three basic parts: 1. A discussion of the attendees’ photo submissions (no names will be used). 2. An hour-long power point to illustrate important photography concepts. 3. Hands on application of the photography concepts covered as students take their cameras outside to take photos. Students should bring a camera. In addition, prior to class, each should email an 8-by-10 format image (higher resolution) to the instructor at frenchfoto@cox.net.
